Elate Beauty is located in a light and airy room at the CoCreate Hub. Sanelisiwe Kanqu is a Kayamandi resident who qualified in Somatology in 2017. Early on in her career, Sanelisiwe worked at a hydro where she learned that there is more to the business of beauty than physical appearance and that ultimately, the goal is to make people feel happy. She firmly believes that regardless of size, disability, or age, every person deserves to feel pampered and cared for. At the hydro, she experienced the fact that many people were limited by how they feel about themselves, which results in poor self-confidence.

In 2018, while working at the spa at the Spier Hotel, Sanelisiwe decided to launch her own business in Kayamandi – an opportunity for local residents to experience the same treatments as those provided by luxury venues, but at an affordable price. Encountering the challenges of building a treatment room from scratch, Sanelisiwe had just started working at the Silo Hotel in Cape Town when the Covid pandemic struck, leading to her retrenchment.

Sanelisiwe embraced the opportunity to resume her business from the CoCreate Hub, and loves working in an environment filled with friendly and motivated entrepreneurs. Although she only began trading in September, business is already picking up, and thanks to some assistance from one of her clients, she has been able to promote her business more effectively on Instagram. She says that the best advertising is word of mouth and that it is her satisfied clients who recommend Elate Beauty to friends and family.

Apart from manicures and pedicures, Sanelisiwe also provides a selection of waxing and massage services. She says that her express manicure is one of her most popular services. She describes herself as someone who is patient and who considers what types of treatment and level of service she would love to receive. Customer satisfaction and reasonable pricing are important to her. Sanelisiwe has big plans for the future and is furthering her knowledge on providing treatments to clients with disabilities. She is motivated by her daughter and by her mom, who gave her the opportunity to study in a field that was meaningful and important to her.
