Wanga and Uzi Ncise are two inspiring young men and the creators of the delicious Waga’s Fries. After a visit to Germany, Wanga returned with the vision of creating a tasty and filling potato snack that was different from everything else on the market. After doing his research and buying the equipment he needed, Wanga launched Waga’s Fries in 2017. Together with his brother, Uzi, they began selling their products at local weekend markets and at the CPUT market days and they were soon being invited to markets throughout the Cape Town region.
The brothers are new to Stellenbosch, but have a vision for a business that will grow and thrive. Wanga is a horticulturalist at the Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens and Uzi is an electrical engineering student at CPUT, but both have a creative and entrepreneurial streak. Their aim is to not only to expand and grow their business, but to foster a company culture that is unique to their brand. Being passionate about a good service and connecting with their customers is important. This means that as they expand and take on new staff, they plan on providing training to ensure that their service and products remain consistent and of a high standard.
Waga’s Fries is about more than just fried potatoes. They offer a tasty meal prepared with a blend of sauces and spices. Their menu caters for those just wanting a light snack and to those looking for something more substantial and they are always experimenting with new flavours, fillings and toppings. Being located at the CoCreate Hub means that Waga’s Fries has a more permanent base, and joins the other food stall vendors in a lively outdoor locale.
Uzi described how they work towards their goals by saying, “personally, always keep your focus on your goals. Even if it doesn’t happen for you today, that doesn’t determine your future. If you keep focused, you will reach your goal.”
